The theme of my second last week at Pollenizer has been about team happiness and how to best achieve this. During my time at Pollenizer I have definitely come to appreciate the importance of team happiness in the workplace and the effect this has on the entire workplace, making it an enjoyable as well as productive place to work. The most interesting aspect of this theme is the creativity involved in implementing new and innovative ways to improve team happiness. During my research this week, many of traditional viewpoints had been challenged, especially by IT companies such as Github. For Github, employees can work wherever and whenever they like with performance based predominantly on output, a viewpoint which, to me, makes a lot of sense.This has been successful for Github, yet whether it will be successful for all companies is another question. Other Github specific workplace elements include asynchronous communication, alcohol availability, minimal meetings, shared side projects, and sponsorship of monthly gym memberships. All of these elements add up to a workplace that is far more autonomous and modern than I was aware existed; something I didn’t think I would see given how different I thought the Pollenizer workplace was.
