My final week at Pollenizer and I’m not sure whether things have slowed down or that this week just seemed a bit more consistent than usual. Throughout the work I have been able to work on my University presentation with the intention of presenting part of it at X-Poll this week. While in previous posts I mentioned that there was very little of my university learning that could be applied to my practical work at Pollenizer, I was able to make the connection between different models and theories taught at university in regards to how Pollenizer functions as a company and motivates its employees.

Throughout the week I also gained some insight into how succession planning worked; something necessary to Pollenizer as it expands into Singapore and San Francisco as well as how salary brackets are determined. I also had some more first hand exposure to induction as we welcomed James and Katie to the design team.

This week, apparently, I have become a “complainer” according to Claudia. Really though, this all stemmed from treat time on Monday when she gave everyone a treat, but neglected to give me one…which doesn’t sound much like team happiness to me. Given my attachment to chocolate, this was a particularly cruel thing to do. Even when I went to get the leftover treats from the kitchen they were gone. This crushing disappointment may just be my lasting impression of working at Pollenizer. So a warning to all interns, bring your own chocolate because chances are you won’t get any. (Unless one of the other interns bakes awesome cookies – Thanks Alvin!)

In all seriousness though, leaving Pollenizer will be a bittersweet parting. Sweet because I can’t wait to sleep in again, bitter because I genuinely enjoyed working here. The people and culture are great and the work was almost always challenging and interesting. Big thanks to Claudia for being a great mentor and for putting up with me (though some in the Ops team might argue it’s the other way round :P) Given the chance I would definitely work here again, and hopefully this won’t be the last blog post you see from me.
